Season I, week 5: frontmodes Kobras 35, igorz malfunxionistz 20 (Final)frontmodes Kobras (3-2) kept control of their own postseason fate beating igorz malfunxionistz (1-4) 35-20 at the breakdown dome.
The Malfs suffered their fourth consecutive loss and are officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Aided by a strong rushing attack, the Kobras scored four TDs in the second quarter and held on to their lead in the second half. Their RBs finished the game with 249 yds and four TDs.
The Malfs' QB completed only seven of his 18 passing attempts but he had TD passes for 50 and 40 yds in the first half before the Kobras stormed ahead 28-14 on a 13-yd TD pass and a 4-yd TD run.
Thanks to their kicker, the Malfs stayed in the game. Just before halftime, he hit a 53-yd field goal to cut the deficit to 11 points. In the third quarter, he connected with a 37-yarder to make it a one-possession game and then had his onside kick recovered by a teammate.
However, the Malfs turned the ball over on downs on a 4th-and-2 from the Kobras' 41 when a screen-pass play was stopped at the line of scrimmage. Early in the fourth, the Malfs had another chance to come back but a Kobras' defender picked off a pass and returned it 16 yds to the Kobras' 48-yd line.
Taking advantage of this turnover, the Kobras drove to the game-clinching touchdown covering 52 yds with 9 plays.
Going into their regular-season finale against silentsound's Silentknights, the Kobras do not need a calculator to find out about their playoff destiny: if you win or tie, you're in, if you lose, you're out - simple as that.
