Regular-season game: Seagulls escape late comeback bid (8 October 2010)
Season I, week 4: Lübeck Bay Seagulls 25, silentsound's Silentknights 23 (Final)The Lübeck Bay Seagulls (2-2) dominated the first three quarters building a 12-point lead but had to defend a two-point-conversion attempt to avoid overtime and escape with their second win in a row defeating silentsound's Silentknights (2-2) 25-23 at Silent Field Stadium.
The Seagulls' QB threw for 198 yds and a pair of TDs. Their defense contributed with a sack, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a safety. Their special teams scored on three FGs and blocked a punt.
Miscues were traded early in the game. The Seagulls' opening possession ended with an interception but the 'Knights went three-and-out and their punt was blocked at their own 20. The Seagulls then reached the 3-yd line but then failed to convert a 4th-and-Goal. On the next play, the Seagulls defense stopped the 'Knights' ball-carrier in the end zone.
On the first play of the second half, the 'Knights scored on an 80-yd TD run but the Seagulls replied with a 70-yd scoring drive capped by their QBs second TD pass. The 'Knights RB ran for 160 yds and three TDs including two fourth-quarter scores.
The Seagulls' kicker converted a 51-yd field-goal attempt to give his team a 22-10 lead late in the third quarter but with 1:24 minutes left to play and their lead down to eight, he missed the game-clincher from 38 yds out giving the 'Knights a shot to send the game into overtime.
The 'Knights' QB had a less than stellar game completing only 48 percent of his passes and throwing no TD but two interceptions. But with two long completions, he set up a 16-yd TD run giving himself the chance to be a hero. He threw into the end zone on the two-point-conversion attempt but his pass fell incomplete. The game was over when the Seagulls recovered the 'Knights' ensuing onside kick.
