Prussian Warriors

Cup final: Warriors win Go-4-9 Cup (1 January 2013)

G49 I - Final: Moderate Drinkers 6, Prussian Warriors 10 (Final/15:00)

The Prussian Warriors are the new QFL Cup holders beating the Moderate Drinkers 10-6 in a thrilling QFL Go-4-9 Cup final in which every possession ended with points.

The Drinkers had one hand on the cup taking a 6-5 lead with only 2:36 minutes left to play in the 15-minute regulation but the Warriors struck back and scored on a 35-yd field-goal attempt with 12 seconds left to play.

The Warriors opened the score when the Drinkers' return man fielded a 56-yd punt at the 2-yd line and chose to run a return through his own end zone where he was tackled for a safety. On their ensuing drive, the Warriors covered 58 yds with 14 plays taking 7:36 off the clock before settling for a 27-yd field goal to extend their lead to 5-0.

The Drinkers struck back with 6-play, 75-yd TD drive capped by a 47-yd TD run. Their two-point-conversion pass fell incomplete giving the Warriors the chance to win it on another field goal.

Things seemed to go downhill for the Warriors when they were flagged for offensive pass inferference followed by an 8-yd sack. But on 3rd-and-28 from their own 2-yd line, their QB completed a 26-yd pass before their RB converted on 4th-and-2 to keep the Warriors' comeback bid alive.

With a nice 31-yd pass followed by a 21-yd run, the Warriors found themselves at the Drinkers' 17-yd line and opted to take their final timeout with 24 seconds left to play before their kicker let the ball split the uprights to give his team an 8-6 lead.

Surprisingly, the Drinkers opted to fair catch the ensuing kickoff at their own 3-yd line rather than try to run a return. Their hopes for a miraculous one-play comeback ended when their RB was tackled in the end zone for another safety as time expired.

The Warriors' QB finished the game with 8-of-12 for 112 yds while the Drinkers' QB's only passing attempt fell incomplete. The Drinkers' RB had six carries for 72 yds.

With this win, the Warriors succeed duffeldoffel's Reds as QFL Cup holders.
