Regular-season game: Drinkers beat Moles: three-way tie for first place (22 December 2012)
Season II, week 4: Moderate Drinkers 38, MoRe's Moles 20 (Final)Their QB threw for 244 yds and a pair of TDs and their RB ran in two more scores as the Moderate Drinkers (2-2) beat MoRe's Moles (2-2) 38-20 in a crucial divisional matchup.
While the Drinkers bounced back from an 0-2 start with two successive wins, the Moles are in danger to repeat their fate of last season when they started the season 2-0 but then lost consecutive games and missed out on the playoffs.
The Moles fumbled the opening kickoff giving the Drinkers excellent field position at the 17-yd line. However, the Drinkers came out empty as their QB was picked off at the 2-yd line.
Both teams failed to score until late in the second quarter before the Drinkers drew first blood on a 43-yd TD run with 5:36 left in the half. Their RBs finished the game with 27 carries for 153 yds.
Only two minutes later, the Moles struck back with a 10-yd TD pass set up by a 37-yd completion on the previous play. But the Drinkers reclaimed the lead returning the ensuing kickoff 98 yds to the end zone.
With 36 seconds left to play in the first half, the Drinkers got the ball back at their own 19. With two long passes for 45 and 21 yds, the Drinkers got in field-goal range and added three more points to take a 17-7 lead into the locker room.
The Drinkers' QB remained on a hot streak opening the second half with two completions for 29 yds each and finished the drive with a 6-yd TD toss to extend his team's lead to 24-7.
The Moles came within 10 points finishing an 8-play, 80-yd drive with 14-yd TD run but the Drinkers never really got in danger for the rest of the game and added two more TDs in the fourth quarter on a 7-yd pass and a 22-yd run taking advantage of an interception.
As the Prussian Warriors also lost two consecutive games after a 2-0 start, the Drinkers find themselves in a three-way tie for first place in the Gothic Division with the momentum on their side. They will face the Warriors in their regular-season finale which might very well turn out some kind of a pre-playoff game.
