Regular-season game: Beagles suffer beastly fate (16 January 2013)
Season II, week 4: Dicey Beasts 34, Mighty Beagles of Angedair 0 (Final)They were heavily outgained; they were outpossessed by more than nine minutes; they had only nine first downs; they converted only one third down; they had twice as many penalties as the opposition.
And yet, the Dicey Beasts (3-1) beat the Mighty Beagles of Angedair (1-3) in an improbable 34-0 shutout to remain in firm control of their own playoff fate while the Beagles have been eliminated from playoff contention.
The Beagles' defense set a new franchise record allowing only 105 yds against the Beasts who were the no. 1 offense last season. But it was the Beasts' defense that came up with the big plays they needed to win this game.
The Beasts' defenders registered four fumble recoveries, five sacks and a pick-six. Overall, the Beasts scored 24 points off turnovers and the punt-return unit contributed with another home run.
The Beagles' kicker had two chances to at least avoid the shutout, however, he missed his opportunities from 51 and 49 yds out. Their offense had their best possession early in the fourth quarter when they covered 67 yds before losing a fumble at the Beasts' 13-yd line.
Three plays later, the Beagles forced a fumble on a sack at the Beasts' 7. But the Beasts recovered and advanced their own fumble 93 yds for a TD to take a 27-0 lead.
The Beagles' RBs fumbled eight times on 41 carries.
The only other offensive TD came when the Beasts opened the score late in first quarter. They recovered a fumble at the opponents' 9 and two plays later, their QB found a receiver for 6-yd TD pass.
