Playoff scenarios updated (24 April 2021)
With two regular-season finales played and the other two still under way, it's time to take a closer look at the new situation. The following teams have already booked their spots: Flash 80s, Jetto Basterds, silentsound's Silentknights.
Still hopeful are: Niners Sparrows, Prussian Warriors.
The 80s have clinched the #1 seed and will host the wild-card team: either the 'Knights or the Warriors.
The Basterds will be the #3 seed and travel to the Southern Division champions: either the 'Knights or the Sparrows.
Basically, it's as simple as this:
The Warriors need wins from both the 80s and Eagle Eyes to snatch the wild card. Otherwise, the Sparrows will return to the playoffs.
Here are the updated detailed scenarios for the remaining regular-season finales.
Season IV, week 7: Niners Sparrows 17, Flash 80s 23 (Final)
If the Sparrows win:
- The Sparrows will win the Southern Division title.
- The 'Knights will win the wild card.
If the game ends in a tie:
- The 'Knights will win the Southern Division title.
- The Sparrows will win the wild card.
If the Sparrows lose:
- The 'Knights will win the Southern Division title.
- The strength-of-victory tiebreaker, influenced by the outcome of the other game still under way, will determine the winner of the wild card as described below.
Season IV, week 7: Dicey Beasts 14, Eagle Eyes 24 (Final)
The following will be valid only if the Sparrows lose to the 80s:
If the Eagle Eyes win:
- The 'Knights will win the Southern Division title.
- The Sparrows will win the wild card.
If the Beasts win:
- The 'Knights will win the Southern Division title.
- The Warriors will win the wild card.
If the game ends in a tie:
- The 'Knights will win the Southern Division title.
- The tie between the Sparrows and Warriors will be broken by the best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
This step is tied at 10-10 after the first two games have been finished. It seems likely that the Warriors might have the edge if this tiebreaker (or an even later one) were to be applied.
All scenarios mentioned above are subject to correction without prior notice.
