Cup game: Drinkers win longest QFL Cup game ever, reach semifinals (5 April 2013)
BWMC I - QF: Dicey Beasts 0, Moderate Drinkers 3 (Final/32:24)After 32:24 minutes of QFL-cup action, the Moderate Drinkers beat the Dicey Beasts 3-0 to qualify for the Bill-Walsh-Memorial Cup semifinals.
The two clubs beat the previous record held by igorz malfunxionistz and frontmodes Kobras who had needed 28:48 minutes to finish their quarterfinal in the first edition of the Go-4-9 Cup.
Both clubs needed eight possessions to determine the semifinalist coming out of this game. The Drinkers caught an interception and returned it 26 yds to the Beasts' 23-yd line. They were stopped for a three-and-out but their kicker split the uprights from 35 yds out to finally break the deadlock.
As the Beasts had kicked off the game, they had one possession left to try and comeback but a personal foul and a run for negative yardage were too much to overcome.
The Drinkers deserved to win as they heavily outgained and outpossessed the Beasts but they did have their miscues as well. They had two passes picked off, lost a fumble and turned the ball over on downs when for some reason going for it on 4th-and-9 from their own 45.
The Beasts had three passes intercepted and turned the ball over on downs three times including their final possession when they had no choice. Prior to that, they had failed to convert a 4th-and-8 from the Drinkers' 45 and on 4th-and-9 from the Drinkers' 43. Their other two possessions ended with punts after going three-and-out.
