The dieselz scored 63 of their 65 points in the final three quarters of the game including 28 points in the fourth quarter and they had to come from behind to beat their division rivals.
The Malfs opened the score in the middle of the first quarter when their RB broke through and romped 80 yds into the end zone. Early in the second quarter, he added a 67-yd score to give his team a 12-point lead. Early in the fourth quarter, he ran home from 78 yds out to cut the dieselz' lead to 13 points.
The Malfs' RBs finished the game with 24 carries for a franchise record 304 yds and three scores. With 12.7 yds per carry, they almost doubled the average of their dieselz counterparts but the dieselz' RBs scored five TDs en route to victory.
With 3:12 minutes left to play in the first half, the dieselz took the lead for the first time when their QB threw his first TD pass. The Malfs replied with a 38-yd field goal to take a 24-23 halftime lead but in the second half, it was all dieselz.
Led by interim coach Buvag, the dieselz finished their first drive of the second half with a 2-yd TD run to take the lead for good. Late in the third quarter, they extended their lead on a 14-yd TD run off of a fumble.
Even though they were holding a big lead late in the game, the dieselz were eager to score and break the QFL scoring record. Their mission was accomplished when their QB threw two late TD passes.
The dieselz' QB had a career day completing 29-of-37 (78.4 percent) for 421 yds, four TDs and a 150.1 rating setting franchise records in each department. He has not thrown an interception so far in this season (150 attempts).
With another TD, both teams would have broken the QFL record for the most points combined but the Malfs' final drive ended at the dieselz' 8-yd line when time ran out.
While the dieselz can be almost certain to return to the playoffs, the Malfs will probably have to win out their final two games to make it to the postseason.
