Recap
Reds the first to start 3-0duffeldoffel's Reds' QB threw his fourth TD pass with 3:12 minutes remaining to terminate MoRe's Moles' (2-1) hopes for a QFL-record comeback as the Reds became the first team in league history to start a season 3-0.
The Reds stormed ahead 21-0 before the Moles registered their first new first down with TD passes for 1, 3 and 5 yds and seemed to have the affair under firm control. But with two consecutive deep passes for 35 and 39 yds, the Moles got on the board and gained some much needed confidence.
And that began to show in the second half when the Moles drove 60 yds with the opening drive capped by a 9-yd TD run followed by a Reds three-and-out and a Moles 30-yd field goal to cut the deficit down to four points.
The Moles got their opportunities to complete their comeback bid when they blocked a punt late in the third and a field-goal attempt early in the fourth quarter. Also, the Moles defenders forced no fewer than eight fumbles but the Moles scored zero points off of their five turnovers which in the end proved crucial.
Led by interim coach Buvag filling in for head coach duffeldoffel throughout almost the entire second half, the Reds put the game away with a 7-minute, 83-yd TD drive capped by a 7-yd TD pass on third down.
The Reds' QB finished the game with 16-of-26 for 185 yds and a franchise-record-tying four TDs and is still without an interception for the season. Their defenders caught three interceptions.
The Reds' RBs, however, remain a cause for concern as they register the league's lowest yard-per-carry average and had seven fumbles even though they had their first 200-yd rushing game. Also, their special teams did not really excel having had two kicks blocked and an average of minus-5.7 yds with three punt returns.
The Moles made it a ball game after falling behind 21-0 even though they had only eight new first downs and were heavily outgained and outpossessed.
