Recap
Moles start 2-0 againMoRe's Moles put themselves into excellent position early in the playoff race with a 33-20 win over zugschefz dieselz (1-1). For the second time in as many seasons, the Moles started 2-0.
The Moles' QB had a career game completing 71 percent of his passes (22-of-31) for 232 yds, three TDs and a rating of 111.2 - all franchise records. He threw TD passes for 49, 41 and 4 yds. Their RB ran in the fourth Moles' TD from 21 yds out.
The Moles' defenders contributed with two sacks, two fumble recoveries and a safety to the win and they forced three turnovers on downs thus making up for some special-teams mistakes. The Moles kicker missed a 39-yd field-goal attempt (but made a 53-yarder), and their return men lost fumbles on a punt return and on a safety-kick return.
Ball security was an issue for the dieselz, also, who had no fewer than eight fumbles even though they lost only two of them. Their rushing attack yielded only 2.5 yds per carry and their QB completed only 43.8 percent of his passes for 175 yds and one TD.
The game started like a roller-coaster ride. The dieselz recovered their own opening onside kick but lost a fumble on their first play-from-scrimmage. The Moles ensuing possession ended with their QBs only interception but then, the dieselz turned the ball over on downs in their own territory setting up the Moles' opening score.
Once they had taken the lead, the Moles never let go of the momentum and quickly extended their lead to 17-0 with their two deep TD passes. Even though they had four turnovers, the dieselz failed to take away the momentum scoring only six points off turnovers.
Early in the second half, the Moles' defense scored on a 6-yd sack. With their QBs third TD pass and their long TD run in the middle of the fourth quarter, they put the game away.
The dieselz got on the board scoring an 11-yd TD run late in the first half to cut their deficit down to 10 but never came closer. Even though the Moles' victory never really seemed in danger, the dieselz kept fighting till the end. They scored on a 3-yd pass late in the third quarter to come within two scores and on a 1-yd dive in the final seconds of the game.
The Moles are 4-0 at home in their franchise history. It was their first win in which they did not have to come from behind. Last season, they had three fourth-quarter comebacks in as many home games.
After last season's 2-0 start, the Moles went on to lose three straight games and subsequently missed the playoffs on a late tiebreaker lost to the dieselz.
