dieselz back on track

Snapping a two-game losing streak, zugschefz dieselz (3-2) kept their playoffs hopes very much intact and eliminated the SimKonville Fraggles (1-4) from playoff contention with a 32-20 road win.

Their QB threw for 240 yds and their RBs ran for 209 yds and two TDs as the dieselz took firm control of the game in the second half.

After a rough start with an unsuccessful opening onside kick, an interception in the Fraggles' red zone, a turnover on downs inside the opponents' 30, a blocked punt and a long TD conceded in the first one-and-a-half quarters, the dieselz scored on three consecutive possessions and had a defensive TD in between.

The Fraggles opened the score on a 37-yd TD run in the middle of the first quarter. Their RB ran for 188 yds and three TDs and added an 89-yarder run late in the third quarter but the dieselz had scored 23 points in between. Late in the fourth quarter, he cut his teams' deficit down to nine points on an 18-yd run but the dieselz held on without getting in danger of losing.

After falling behind in the second quarter, the dieselz replied with 44-yd drive capped by a FG. The Fraggles lost a fumble on the second play of their ensuing possession and a dieselz' defender returned it 25 yds to give his team a 9-7 halftime lead. The dieselz opened the second half with TD drives for 80 and 59 yds capped by TD runs for 3 and 7 yds.

The dieselz' kicker converted 4-of-4 FG attempts from 36, 37, 52 and 26 yds out. Their defense contributed two sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery returned for a TD. Their QB was sacked six times by a fierce Fraggles' pass rush.

With this win, the dieselz set up an all-Australian regular-season finale against the Dicey Beasts with a wild card at stake. Even if they lose, they might make it if frontmode Kobras lose to silentsound's Silentknights and MoRe's Moles beat the Fraggles.
