Recap
Kobras defense secure big comebackfrontmode's Kobras (2-2) got their campaign back on track with a great fourth-quarter comeback. Thanks to their defense, they beat MoRe's Moles (2-2) 27-23 at the Snakepit Arena.
The Kobras drew first blood when scoring on a 69-yd punt return a little more than a minute into the game but then were dominated throughout the first three quarters. During this span, the Moles scored 13 points off turnovers and stormed ahead 23-10.
The Moles' RBs ran for 178 yds and a pair of TDs. Their QB was not in good shape completing only 12-of-28 and throwing two very costly fourth-quarter interceptions.
Early in the fourth, the Kobras capped a 65-yd drive with an 8-yd TD pass. On the Moles' ensuing possession, the Kobras caught an interception at the Moles' 31 and returned it to the 26. The Kobras had to put up with a 30-yd FG to cut their deficit down to three points with seven minutes left to play.
But the Kobras could rely on their defenders who had a great day registering two sacks, two interceptions and three fumble recoveries. On the first play of the Moles' next possession, they sacked the QB at the Moles' 10 and after a 5-yd penalty had pushed the Moles back to their own 5, a defender made a "pick six" at the 9-yd line to give his team a 27-23 lead.
The Moles who had won their first two games on last-second scoring plays got two more opportunities to do so. First, they moved the ball 66 yds to the Kobras' 9 from where they had a 1st-and-Goal. But a penalty and a negative run pushed them back so they had to face a 3rd-and-Goal from the 17 with 1:48 minutes left on the clock. Their RB took the handoff and ran up to the 7-yd line and the Moles would have had enough time to go for the 4th-and-Goal. But instead, he fumbled the ball and the Kobras took over.
The Moles then forced a three-and-out and returned the punt 25 yds plus 5 penalty yards added on, so their offense took over at the Kobras' 25 with 36 seconds and a timeout left. With their second play, a 19-yd run, they reached the 6-yd line with time for one more play to avoid their second consecutive loss. The Moles' QB found a receiver on a screen but he was stopped at the line of scrimmage when time ran out.
