Recap
Reds shutout dieselz for first placeduffeldoffel's Reds (3-1) registered the first shutout win in QFL history beating zugschefz dieselz (2-2) by a score of 20-0 to claim sole possession of first place in the Australian Division.
In the encounter of the league's two top defenses, the Reds' RB had a 46-yd TD run on their second play from scrimmage and the Reds added a 30-yd FG and a 6-yd TD pass to build a 17-0 first-quarter lead. During the second TD drive, the QB completed 4-of-4 for 64 yds.
Trailing by 10 in the middle of the first quarter, the dieselz were stopped on a 4th-and-7 from the Reds' 37 and their following two possessions ended with a lost fumble and an interception.
Both offenses moved the ball well in the second quarter. The dieselz had a 7-minute, 58-yd drive and the Reds replied with a 43-yd drive that took almost five minutes from the clock. However, the dieselz' drive ended with an interception at the Reds' 28 and the Reds' kicker missed a 46-yd field-goal attempt late in the first half.
In a game with only one punt on both sides the dieselz turned the ball over on downs four times. The Reds had a chance to extend their lead in the third quarter when they reached the red zone. But a dieselz defender picked off a pass that would have given the Reds a 1st-and-Goal at the 7.
But the Reds did score on their next possession. Taking over in midfield after another turnover on downs, the Reds moved the ball to the dieselz' 29 taking five minutes from the clock. From there, their kicker got his second chance to connect from 46 yds out and this time the ball split the uprights.
On their ensuing possession, the dieselz covered 74 yds to the Reds' 6-yd line. But they squandered their chance to avoid the shutout with a negative run, a pass for no gain, a 5-yd penalty and a lost fumble.
The Reds took the final 8:12 minutes from the clock with a 72-yd drive that included 16 plays and four penalties and ended with two kneel-downs in the red zone.
After winning three-in-a-row, the Reds need one more win out of their final two games to clinch a playoff spot and the title in the Australian Division.
