Recap

Reds reclaim QFL Cup through the backdoor

QFL World Champion duffeldoffel's Reds are the winner of the first ever double-elimination QFL-Cup tournament beating previous cup holders Prussian Warriors on an awarded point in the second final game.

Having lost their opening game, the Reds had to go all the way through the elimination stages and needed to win two final games against the Warriors who had qualified for the finals without a loss.

Trailing by 3 yds with 36 seconds left to play, the Reds' RB ran for 5 yds on 3rd-and-11 to give his team a slim yardage lead. The Reds then stood in disbelief as the Warriors failed to call a timeout to save one or two chances to push the Reds back behind the line required to force extra possessions.

Like they did in the first final game, the Warriors had to go on offense first. But this time, they actually got to move the ball. With their first four plays, they reached their own 43 and then penalties had them move back and forth to that very same spot.

On the final play of their possession, the Warriors' QB threw a short pass to a receiver who converted it into a 32-yd play up to the Reds' 25. But what would have been a great final field position was cancelled out due to a holding call throwing the Warriors back to their own 33.

The Reds started their possession with an 11-yd run and crossed the line required to force extra possessions by 1 yd on their second play. However, a false start threw them back 4 yds behind the line required.

Two plays later, the Reds' RB found the small gap he needed to cross the line required and earn the awarded winning point for his team. Moments later, for the second time in their history, the Reds victoriously lifted the QFL Cup.

For the second time during this tournament, the Reds capitalized from an opponent's failure to manage the clock defensively. Niners Sparrows had made the same mistake against the Reds in the elimination quarterfinals.
